Keynote Live is gone. What to use instead

Keynote Live let you send a link and play your deck to remote viewers in their browsers while you controlled the slides. Apple's support article now says Keynote Live is no longer available and points to FaceTime or another video call. That covers presenting live. It does not cover the other thing people used it for: a link to the deck itself, with the animations intact.

Two jobs Keynote Live did

  • Presenting live: you advance, everyone watching sees the same slide at the same moment.
  • Getting the deck in front of people who do not have Keynote: they only needed a browser.

For presenting live: screen sharing

Apple's recommendation is FaceTime, Zoom, Webex or another call with screen sharing, presenting from Keynote. You keep control of the pace. The catch is motion: screen sharing runs at a lower frame rate than the deck, so builds, transitions and video can look choppy on the other end. Video-call platforms say the same in their own help pages.

For a deck people open themselves: a hosted export

Export the deck (File → Export To → HTML… in Keynote for Mac), drop the folder on linkdeck.me, send the link. Apple's player runs on the viewer's own device, so animations play at full smoothness, and they move through it at their own pace. The deck is still there after the meeting.

The honest limit

Linkdeck does not sync slides between a presenter and an audience. If you need everyone on the same slide at the same moment, use the call. Many people now do both: share the screen during the call, then send the link afterwards so the deck can be watched again properly.

Questions

Is Keynote Live coming back?

Apple has not said so. Its support article describes Keynote Live as no longer available and recommends FaceTime or another videoconferencing app.

Can I control what slide viewers see on a Linkdeck link?

No. Each viewer moves through the deck on their own. For presenter-led sessions, share your screen in a call.

Do viewers need Keynote or an Apple Account?

Not for a Linkdeck link. It opens in any modern browser on any phone, tablet or computer.
