A Speaker Deck alternative for Keynote talks with motion

Same idea, one link for your slides, without flattening them. Speaker Deck takes a PDF; Linkdeck takes Keynote's HTML export and plays it.

What Speaker Deck does well

It is free, simple and public. Upload a PDF, get a page with a slide viewer and an embed code, and your talks sit on a profile people can browse. For static slides that you want indexed and embedded in blog posts, it is hard to argue with.

What a PDF loses from a Keynote talk

Every build collapses to its final state, so the slide that revealed three points one at a time now shows all three at once. Transitions are gone. A video becomes a still. Audio disappears. Magic Move, which is probably why you built the talk in Keynote, is a single frame. The talk you gave and the deck people download are different things.

Who should keep Speaker Deck

Speakers whose slides are static and who want them public, searchable and embeddable in a post. Anyone who wants a permanent free archive of every talk. Linkdeck's free plan hosts one deck for 3 days, which is built for sharing a talk, not archiving a career.

Moving a talk over

  • Open the talk in Keynote: File → Export To → HTML… and save.
  • Right-click the export folder and choose Compress.
  • Upload the .zip on linkdeck.me and put the link on your closing slide.
  • On Pro, pick a slug such as linkdeck.me/yourname-talk-title so it reads well on a QR code.

Keynote only

Linkdeck hosts Keynote's HTML export. If the talk was built in PowerPoint, open the .pptx in Keynote first, check the builds, then export to HTML. PDFs are not accepted; that is the point.

Questions

Is Linkdeck free like Speaker Deck?

The free plan hosts one deck for 3 days (24 hours without signing in), no account needed. Permanent links, 10 decks and analytics are €12 a month on Pro.

Can I make the deck private?

Links are unlisted and there is no public directory. On Pro you can add a password or an email gate.

Can people download the file?

No. The deck plays in the browser; there is no download button, and the source .key file stays with you. Anything on screen can still be screenshotted.
