How to send a pitch deck to investors as a link
The partner asked for the deck at the end of the call. Send it within the hour, as a link that plays the Keynote you presented, and set it up so you learn something when they open it. This is the whole routine, including the settings that help and the ones that get in the way.
1. Make the send version
The deck you present leans on your voice. The deck you send has to stand alone. Duplicate it, add a one-line caption where you would normally talk, and cut the slides that only make sense live. Then File → Export To → HTML… and drop the folder on linkdeck.me.
2. Choose who can open it
- Nothing: the fastest open. Right for a partner who asked for the deck.
- Password: for confidential numbers. Put the password in the same email, or it turns into a support thread.
- Email gate: one field before the first slide, and every address lands in your lead list, which shows you when the deck was forwarded inside a fund. Useful for cold outreach; one step more than a warm contact needs.
- Password and email gate are available on a kept deck (€9) or on Pro.
3. Make sure the link outlives the process
A free link stops working after 3 days. Decks get reopened later: before a partner meeting, when a memo is written, when someone forwards it. Keep the deck for €9 before you send it, or use Pro (€12 a month) if you are sending several versions to many funds.
4. Write the email
Keep it short and say how to open it. For example: 'Thanks for the time today. Here is the deck: linkdeck.me/acme-seed. It plays in the browser on a phone or laptop; the product demo is on slide 6. Happy to send a PDF if your team files one.'
5. Read what happened
On a kept deck or Pro, the analytics page shows each open, the viewer's country and device, and seconds per slide, including opens from before you kept it. Two minutes on the market slide and five seconds on the team slide tells you what the next call is about. Pro can also email you the first time a deck is opened.
6. Fix it without a new link
The numbers change mid-raise. Export the corrected deck and replace it in place: the link already sitting in every inbox now plays the new version. That works on a kept deck and on Pro.
What this is not
- Not a data room: no NDA click-through, no watermarking, no folder of documents.
- Keynote decks only: no PowerPoint or Google Slides conversion.
- No custom domain; links live at linkdeck.me. Pro lets you choose the slug.
Questions
PDF or link?
Both, in that order. The link goes in the email body so the deck plays as presented; offer the PDF for funds that file one. Some investors want a file for their records, and that is fine.
Will an email gate put investors off?
It adds a step. For someone who asked you for the deck, a password or no protection is less friction. For a cold send, the gate tells you who actually opened it.
What does it cost?
Free for 3 days. €9 once keeps this deck permanently with analytics, password, email gate and replace-in-place. €12 a month (Pro) covers up to 10 decks, 500 MB each.
Send the deck before the call notes are cold
Export to HTML, drop the folder, paste the link. Keep it for €9 when it matters.
