Can I see who viewed my Keynote?

Not with Apple's tools. Yes with a hosted link, within limits: you can see that the deck was opened, where, on what, and how long each slide held them. Putting a name to it takes an email gate. Here is the line between what is possible and what is not.

The direct answer

Keynote has no view tracking. Sending the .key file, a PDF or a movie tells you nothing once it leaves your outbox. Sharing through iCloud shows you who is collaborating, not who opened the deck to read it. To see views, the deck has to be served from somewhere that can count them: a hosted link.

What Apple's sharing shows

The iCloud share sheet lists the people you invited and, in the collaboration panel, who is currently in the document. There is no count of opens, no per-slide data and nothing at all for 'anyone with the link' viewers. It is built for co-editing, not for finding out whether the investor read past slide four.

What a Linkdeck link records

Each time someone opens the link, one view is recorded with:

  • Time of the open, and whether it was the deck's first.
  • Country and device type (phone, tablet, desktop).
  • The referrer, so a click from your email looks different from a click from a LinkedIn post.
  • Time on each slide, shown as an average in seconds and how many sessions reached that slide.
  • A hashed IP to tell repeat viewers from new ones. The address itself is not stored.

Getting names: the email gate

Turn on the email gate in the deck's settings and viewers enter an email address before the deck plays. From then on you see the address, when that person first and last opened the deck, and how many times they came back. It is the only way to attach a name to a view; without the gate, views stay anonymous. You can also ask to be emailed the first time a deck is opened.

What you will never see

  • Whether the viewer forwarded the link, or to whom. If two people open it, you see two views.
  • Screen recordings or screenshots.
  • A name without the gate. Country and device are as specific as it gets.
  • Views of a PDF or file you sent alongside the link.

Questions

Will I get notified on the first view?

Yes. On Pro, each deck has a first-view notification you can switch on from the analytics page; Linkdeck emails you the first time that deck is opened.

Can viewers tell they are tracked?

The email gate is explicit: they see the prompt and type their address. Anonymous views are counted the way any web page counts visits, with the IP hashed. If you collect client emails, mention it in your own privacy notice.

Does this work on the free plan?

No. View analytics, per-slide time, the email gate and first-view notification are Pro features (€12 a month). The free plan hosts one deck for 3 days with no view data.

Upload, share, and see the first open

Analytics and the email gate are on Pro. The first deck is free to try.
